Gamescom 2026 Announcements: Opening Night Live Recap, Witcher 3 Remastered, and FF7 Revelation

Opening Night Live 2026 is over for another year, and it brought plenty of announcements, new trailers, and news on upcoming games.Straight from Opening Night Live at gamescom 2026 in Germany, we’ve got all the reveals that matter right here, rounded up below.

The Big Three: Witcher 3 Remastered, FF7 Revelation, and Metro 2039

CD Projekt Red’s Monumental Surprise

Wow! This is perhaps the biggest reveal of ONL: a remaster of CD Projekt’s The Witcher 3!It’s a free upgrade for all The Witcher 3 owners, and is out September 29, 2026. That’s next month!CD Projekt also announced that the previous two expansions are now free.Like, right now!And finally, we got a look at The Witcher 3 expansion, Songs of the Past, which is due out in 2027.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation: The Trilogy Concludes

Director Naoki Hamaguchi took to the stage to confirm a spring 2027 release window and into a new trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.The story will be concluded within the main game.The RPG is set to launch in Spring 2027, and this time it will be released simultaneously on PS5, PC, Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S.That simultaneous day-one rollout is a first for the trilogy.

Revelation will be an open world game featuring a controllable airship – the Highwind – and the player will be able to parachute from the ship onto the map, a first for the trilogy.The game will also feature a system called FITS (Function Integrated Tactical Suitwear), in which playable characters can equip special equipment that alters their appearance and gives them new skills taken from classic Final Fantasy classes such as Warrior or Black Mage.The trailer showed off ground battles against familiar Final Fantasy foes like Typhon, and showed off Ultima Weapon and Emerald Weapon in particular.Notably, Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth have been selling several times better than expected in the wake of Revelation’s Summer Game Fest reveal.

Metro 2039 Sweeps Award Nominations

Ukraine-based developer 4A Games took to the stage to intro Metro 2039 with a brand new gameplay trailer.Metro 2039 has picked up more Gamescom Award 2026 nominations than any other game at this year’s show.Developer 4A Games’ upcoming post-apocalyptic shooter earned five nods — Best PC, Best PlayStation, Best Xbox, Best Visuals, and Most Epic — making it the clear frontrunner heading into the public vote.It’s due out February 2027 on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.METRO 2039 will have a playable demo in person at Gamescom 2026, in Hall 9.1.

Play It Today: Once Human Drops on Consoles

Showcased during the Opening Night Live event, it was revealed that Once Human has been released today, August 25, for free on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.A huge 100-hour RPG available for free, it has you controlling a survivor and features several survival-based gameplay mechanics.

Alongside the console launch, NetEase Games and Starry Studio announced Once Human: Isles of Abyss, an ocean-focused expansion scheduled to arrive across all platforms in October 2026. Players will encounter new threats and locations including ghost ships, gazing towers, and large mechanical creatures beneath the sea.

The Nostalgia Revival: Crazy Taxi & Turok Origins

The upcoming Crazy Taxi: World Tour showcased its multiplayer elements in a new trailer.In Pickup Race mode, up to six players compete to pick up passengers and deliver them to their destinations as quickly as possible.The driver with the most cash wins.Another mode, Cops ‘N’ Cabbies, sees one team commit robberies while the other must stop them in the name of the law.A closed network test will be held from September 11 to September 13. Crazy Taxi: World Tour launches in 2027 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Continuing the nostalgia, Turok: Origins will be playable online and offline on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. It’s due out spring 2027.

  • Gears of War E-Day: Gamescom treated us to one of our first looks at Gears of War E-Day’s campaign trailer, the Xbox console exclusive sequel to the beloved series.This trailer gave us a little more insight into the story, offering us our first look at the locust leader behind the invasion.Gears of War E-Day will release on 6th October 2026.
  • No Law:The next game from the developers of The Ascent.It’s a first-person Cyberpunk-style game where you go around causing havoc in an open-world city, due out in 2027.
  • Path of Exile 2:Path of Exile 2 has its full 1.0 release coming December 11, 2026, from Grinding Gear Games.
  • HoYoverse’s Double Feature: The developer showcased Nodus Fall, a fantasy RPG with a much more mature art style and what appears to be co-op gameplay, alongside Petit Planet, a cosy life sim where you enjoy slow, fulfilling days on your very own planet.
  • Unexpected Crossovers:Yes, you read that right: Snoop Dog is coming to Hitman.Why not?
